01 / The idea
The history behind an espresso martini.
An espresso martini brings together ingredients with histories stretching back hundreds of years. For Bean Kick, we wanted to tell that story through a conversation you could have at a bar.
02 / The story
What inspired this drink?
Bean Kick is a bottled espresso martini made in Poland. The idea was to look beyond the bottle and show how vodka and coffee, each with its own long history, eventually came together in the drink.
We built the film around a woman trying it and asking the bartender what inspired it. His answer takes us from Poland to Italy, London and Guatemala, with an animated timeline marking the dates and places before we return to the bar.
As the script developed, the tone moved from dry comedy toward a warmer story about the drink's origins. The ending brings the conversation full circle: she answers him with his own opening line, How much time you got?

Six moments from the film's journey through the drink's ingredients
03 / AI and live-action production
The bar scenes were always going to be real.
From the start, we planned to film the scenes that carry the conversation with actors. We wanted the viewer to meet real people first and follow an exchange that could happen across a bar. Those scenes were shot in Las Vegas.
A medieval distillery and historical Italian espresso bars would involve a different scale of production: period sets, travel and the crew to make it happen. AI let us build those settings for the bartender's journey through the drink's ingredients. We shot the conversation on location and used AI for the worlds around it.
04 / From AI to the shoot
We worked out the film before the shoot.
Before filming, we made the entire commercial in AI, including the bar scenes and dialogue. We used that complete version to work through the shots and how the conversation played, so we could arrive on set with scenes we had already worked out. Even the bar reference was adjusted for the shoot: we removed the venue name so it would not tie the scenes to a location we might not use.
That made the shoot easier. The AI film was our reference for recreating the shots with actors, with fewer decisions left to work out on set. The location and performances brought their own character to the scenes. These comparisons show the same moments in both versions.

The finished commercial combines those performances with the generated sequences, brought together through editing, color and sound.

Long Story Short is the newest film in our ongoing work for Bean Kick, alongside the three earlier spots on the brand's case study page.
